After the last couple of years we’ve all had, there are few professionals more deserving of recognition than doctors. It’s often thankless work, so we want to pull out all the stops to celebrate these hard-working heroes on National Doctors’ Day. From one doctor to another, AirDoctor would love to take the opportunity to celebrate America’s physicians on March 30th. We’re giving you the opportunity to do the same!
Not All Heroes Wear Capes… Some Wear Scrubs and Stethoscopes
Millions of healthcare workers have been providing essential services to those impacted by COVID-19. Often underprepared and overworked, doctors, nurses, technicians, support staff, and other healthcare professionals have risked their own lives to save the lives of others.
It’s a breath of fresh air to witness this professionalism, commitment, and dedication—and AirDoctor sincerely thanks and salutes these pandemic heroes. March 30th provides a perfect time to do so.
First celebrated on March 30, 1933, Eudora Brown Almond, wife of Dr. Charles B. Almond, made a decision to give her husband—and all other doctors—the recognition they deserved. The holiday started with mailed greeting cards and flowers upon the graves of deceased doctors. Red carnations were often chosen, so they became the symbolic flower of the holiday.
In 1958, the United States House of Representatives adopted a resolution commemorating Doctors’ day and in 1990, National Doctors’ Day was established.
We have to wait a few months to officially celebrate nurses and some of the other healthcare professionals, but for now, we’d like you to join us in showing doctors a little recognition for their compassion, kindness, and commitment to the profession.
Treat Your Doctor to an AirDoctor
As most of us are fortunate to only encounter doctors on the rare occasions of an illness or injury, it’s hard to imagine some of the day-to-day struggles they face. Between long working hours, responding to late-night calls, and being a bearer of bad news, being a physician is tough. In fact, physicians were ranked as having the third most stressful job in 2022, according to US News.
With this in mind, we’d encourage you to be compassionate to the demands of being a doctor, as well as the effort required in the constantly evolving profession. If you’ve formed a relationship with a doctor who’s passed away, March 30th is a great time to leave a traditional red carnation on their grave, or give one to those who are still with us.
Recognizing that many physicians treat millions of stroke, diabetes, respiratory disease, and heart attack patients—and that all of these are linked with air pollution—we’re providing three doctors with an AirDoctor purifier for their home or office.
Here’s where you come in. We’d love you to nominate your favorite doctor. Let us know how they’ve helped you thrive in life, and we’ll do our part to support a few of them with cleaner, healthier air.
Hats off to the love, sacrifice, bravery, and courage of doctors. We can’t wait to read how some of them have left a mark on your lives.
